Izar

"Izar" obverse side view in stainless steel damascus blade, hand-engraved 304 stainless steel bolsters, Chrysocolla gemstone handle, blue stingray skin inlaid in hand-carved leather sheath
"Izar" fine handmade knife

The Izar is a simple pattern, named for a binary star in the constellation Bootes. This individual knife is made of pattern welded twist stainless steel damascus for the blade, fully fileworked, with a tapered tang, hollow grind, and light etching to bring out the pattern of the twisted steels. I bolstered the knife with hand-engraved 304 high nickel, high chromium austenitic stainless steel in a burst of leaves pattern, and the bolsters are dovetailed to bed a pair of rather striking Chrysocolla gemstone handle scales. This gemstone is related and found with turquoise, but has softer areas of calcite in creamy white, and has an unusual waxy consistency. The knife is sheathed in a hand-carved leather sheath inlaid with Blue Stingray skin, hand-stitched, dyed black, lacquered and sealed. A unique and unforgettable knife.
