Ordering a Knife: How to buy a knife
from me
This is a short page to clarify how I do
business.
I do not have a running catalog with price
list; this is not a typical catalog website. You won't see any
prices posted anywhere on the site except on the
Current and
Tactical
knives for sale pages. These are the finished knives I currently have in my
inventory ready for immediate delivery. You won't see many knives
available there, as they move quickly and demand is fairly high.
Many of the knives I make are
custom knives made to order.
A client sees a pattern or style of knife he is interested in on my
site, or perhaps he has a design he wants built. He
emails me, we
start an email conversation, and once I have the general details, I
give him a quote. If he is agreeable, he makes a $100 US
deposit per knife and I start the design and/or construction of his knife
or knives. Once the project is completed, he pays the balance and I ship his knife to
him. I guarantee his satisfaction with a money back guarantee (this
does not apply to large, elaborate, or unusual projects, which may
also require larger deposits).
At the time of this writing, my orders are
running at least a year, but may possibly be finished sooner. Sometimes
it takes longer. Since all my knives are handmade, I dedicate a lot
of time to create each piece, and I have many orders. You can see
the size of my order list on
this page. There,
you will see other knives I'm working on that may be available
sooner.
| Here's my email response to a
client who was concerned about the possible timing and
cost of a knife order:
Two years is indeed a long time, but it's always
possible a knife will be finished sooner. I frequently
have that happen, but I just want my clients to be
prepared in case it takes that long. Right now, I've got
at least one hundred knives on the bench.
As far as ordering, the
sooner a client orders, the sooner he locks in the price
and knife. My prices have been going up in the last
several years, as materials, expendables, and overhead
have been steadily climbing. Ordering now will lock the
price in at today's price, not next year's.
The other advantage to the
client is that most knives only require the standard
$100 deposit, and this allows some who need to budget
for the balance many months to save up the balance due
on the knife.
Another
advantage to ordering soon would be to get a spot in the
queue. You can see the lineup on my
"Where's
My Knife, Jay?" page on my site. Next year, my
waiting list will probably grow, pushing those new
delivery times back to three years...
In any case, I'll be here,
when and if you decide to order, just let me know.
Thanks,
Jay
