  • Knife: Rei is a Japanese character that portrays many meanings, two of the meanings especially fitting for this knife, black and spirit. When naming the Rei many options arose but we needed a name that encompassed different qualities we designed in the knife. The black, non-glare surface of the knife and the fluid, phantom lines of the blade made Rei the perfect name. This new design was a first in our digitally inspired series of custom knives. Digital entertainment is full of amazing designs and we are the first to make professional quality, useable tools that are not replicas. Click here for more information about this program. The Rei has a wide variety of uses and applications that are essential for a potential viral outbreak in Procyonid City. For instance, the Rei is a capable and extremely durable tactical and combat knife, suitable for a wide range of applications and environments. This knife is also a tremendous survival and rescue tool with the increased capability of two different, yet unique, cutting edges great for that city escape before the government quarantine is in place. With these features the Rei would be a survivalists' dream during a zombie apocalypse. Additionally the Rei is a collectors grade work of art, with the fine geometry, beautiful lines, punchy architecture, and excellent grind and finish. At over a pound, though the Rei is substantial, it is amazingly light and fast in the hand. The roaming dead will have no chance of sneaking up on the wielder of this fast, markedly large knife. This is due to the careful control of the balance and the attention to symmetry, arrangement, and finish of the striking, mechanistic structure. That structure includes a unique and original hand-carved and polished handle of green and black layered canvas reinforced Micarta phenolic secured with 44 machine screws made of 304 high nickel, high chromium stainless steel. The handle is easily cleanable after a zombie encounter, keeping the possibility of infected biohazard contact to a minimum. The handle scales are chamfered, contoured, and rounded for a comfortable grip, as is the thick, strong, and solid, tool steel tang. The 10.5" of zombie hacking O-1 high carbon tungsten-vanadium alloy tool steel is deeply and differentially hollow ground with 10" and 3" diameter wheels to create a razor sharp, double edge with a long drop point tip. The main grind is a complex recurve with a tanto point with a secondary cutting edge, and an aggressive drop-curve on the top grind with a substantial, yet graceful central spine, giving the blade great strength. The cutting edges are razor keen, and the O-1 is easy to sharpen and maintain, even under the stress of undead attacks. The bluing process we used on this knife is a high temperature, professional, deep penetrating, salt oxidation process that will inhibit corrosion for a very long time with little care. The bluing almost totally reduces glare so to not attract unwanted undead attention and adds corrosion resistance for the unpleasant wetness of zombie dispatching. The tang is fully 1/4" thick for weight balance and strength. The fulcrum point is at the forefinger ring. The tang extends beyond the handle scales and is rounded and smoothed for comfort in the grip. Rei is an impressive 16.8" long and was designed with the perfect length for extraction from the trapezius harness sheath shown below.
  • Sheath: The sheath is one of our combat grade, waterproof, tension fit models, made from double-thickness kydex, 1/4" thick welts of 5052H32 corrosion resistant, high strength aluminum alloy, secured with corrosion proof, stainless steel Chicago screws. If the sheath is removed from the harness, the reversible belt loops can be attached and will accommodate a standard 1.75" military web utility belt or tactical mounting gear, vest, or PALS webbing over body armor. It can even fit on Procyonid City Police Department uniforms to protect the civilians from infection The die-formed loops can be positioned anywhere along the welts, and with the reversing capability, translate to 10 different mounting methods just with the belt loops alone.
  • Trapezius Harness: The harness was designed for quick and easy extraction of the Rei. It is made from polypropylene and is stitched with high strength, upholstery grade nylon. The entire package is waterproof and no weak or corrosion-inviting rivets are present. Reinforced areas are triple-zigzag stitched and will easily support the weight of 3 men, which in a daring escape from a defiled, undead city, might be necessary. The buckles are positioned to avoid chaffing or rubbing and are within easy reach for emergency release. The polypropylene webbing holds the sheath securely against the trapezius muscles of the back, effectively protecting a large portion of the wearers spine from clawing zombies. The webbing crosses the right shoulder and is secured with sturdy quick release buckles and crosses the lower chest, also secured with a buckle. These quick release buckles can save a life if the harness is grabbed by a horde of walking dead. This arrangement keeps the sheath from dropping or rising when the knife is sheathed or unsheathed. Once the fit is set for the wearer, it is quickly donned without troublesome readjusting. The harness is attached to the thick, tension fit sheath with 1/4" thick welts of 5052H32 corrosion resistant, high strength aluminum alloy and sandwiched between another plate of .080 thick aluminum alloy. This is secured together with 304 stainless steel machine screws. The harness is comfortable when seated or standing and the quick release clips are easy to reach. This package can be worn in tactical situations as well as having many other applications.
  • Additional Optional Accessories: The ultimate belt-loop extender package for traditional wear can be custom made for this knife as an option.
  • It is exciting to offer this magnificent new design as a opening to an untouched area of custom, digitally inspired, fully functional tools. We know you will enjoy it as much a we enjoyed making it!

The weight of the blade allowed us to keep the tang untapered for more handle weight. "Rei" obverse handle view. The handle material is hand filed and designed for comfort and security. The tang is extended beyond the handle material allowing the butt of the handle to be used as a glass breaker. "Rei" point view. The double hollow ground blade and a slight recurve makes the Rei a substantial tool. "Rei" in sheath view. The Rei sits deeply into the tension fit sheath with enough handle being exposed for quick grab and extraction. "Rei" and Trapezius harness worn by Rusty. The harness latches together over the shoulder and just uner the arm, securing the harness tightly in place. "Rei" and Trapezius harness worn by Rusty. The harness lays against the Trapezius muscles of the back, this position keeps the knife in reach and is comfortable. "Rei" and Trapezius harness worn by Rusty. The harness keeps the sheath in place without rising or dropping when unsheathing or replacing the knife. "Rei" and Trapezius harness worn by Rusty. The Rei is just in reach for quick extraction and the handle is kept out of the way of the movement of the neck. "Rei" and Trapezius harness worn by Rusty. The angle of the sheath keeps the blade edge away from the wearer when extracting. "Rei" and Trapezius harness worn by Rusty. By simply pinching the tip of the blade with two fingers and carefully guiding the blade into position, resheathing the Rei is easy and safe. "Rei" and Trapezius harness worn by Rusty. After reinserting the the tip of the blade into the sheath sliding the Rei into position is simple.
