Izumi

"Izumi" Tanto blade knife: mirror polished 440C high chromium stainless steel blade, 304 stainless steel bolsters, Nightstorm jasper gemstone handle, lizard inlaid in leather sheath
"Izumi" Fine Tanto Blade Knife
  • Size: Length overall: 9.5" (24.13 cm), Blade Length: 5" (12.7 cm), Thickness: .1875" (.48 cm)
  • Blade: 440C High Chromium Stainless Tool Steel, Hardened and Tempered to Rockwell C59, mirror polished
  • Bolsters: 304 Austenitic Stainless Steel, Mirror Finished
  • Handle: Polished Nightstorm Jasper Gemstone
  • Sheath: Lizard Skin inlaid in Leather Shoulder

Izumi is a unique knife, custom made. The broad and deeply hollow ground, mirror finished Tanto style blade has a very masculine character, with a sculpted spine adorned with regulated and variable diminishing pattern filework, fully encompassing the full tang blade and handle. The bolsters are brightly mirror polished 304 austenitic stainless steel, 25% chromium and 8% nickel for zero care and greatest longevity of finish. The handle is adorned with scales of tough, hard Nightstorm Jasper gemstone, with a smooth and bright polish. This stone has stunning contrast, with blacks and golden-purples reminiscent of a storm at sunset. Very neat stuff! The shape of the handle is very inviting, and the curves make it comfortable to hold in any grip style. For a sheath befitting this fine work, I built one of my "open" style sheaths, which displays much of the knife while protecting the point and cutting edges. The knife is positively locked into the sheath, and cannot be removed unless the snap is opened, and the knife angled away from the snap set. The sheath is carved front and back, and inlaid with dark chocolate colored Teju lizard skin inlays. A wonderful project for a fine collector!

Thanks, D. K.!
